Tourmaline: October birthstone 

Toumaline comes from the name "thoramalli" in Sinhala (according to the Madras Tamil Lexicon). Sinhala also know as Sinhalese, is an indo-aryan language spoken by the Sinhalese of Sri Lanka. 

Tourmalines are a favorite amongst jewelers as they have one of the widest range of varieties of colors for any semi-precious gemstone.
